We. Can’t. Wait.

The first official trailer for the upcoming season of The Handmaid’s Tale left fans wanting more, so Hulu obliged.

In the latest trailer, viewers are given even more of an insight into what to expect from season five.

It opens with June (Elisabeth Moss) reflecting on how she murdered Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes), as she tells her husband Luke (O-T Fagbenle): “He was a monster. The founding father of Gilead. He took away our country. He had to pay for what he did. I killed him and I loved it so much.”

As the trailer goes on, it sets the upcoming season up to be a battle of wills between June and the now widowed Serena (Yvonne Strahovski). June confesses that she wants Serena to know it was her that killed her husband, though Luke worries that by doing so, she puts their lives in danger.

We see Serena winning the support of those in Gilead, hellbent on taking revenge on June, who is considered to be “a cancer”, by the nation.

Aunt Lydia, meanwhile, continues to terrorise the women of Gilead. In the trailer, she tells us that there are “consequences for disobeying God,” as a woman in labour is strapped to a chair.

June and Luke resign themselves to return to Gilead, this time equipped with a team and some weapons. June then states her mission.

“I pray for our children,” she says. “May they live a life without all of this hate.”

It ends on an ominous note, with June lighting a fire and saying: “Dear God. May they do better than we did.”

The series lands on Hulu on 14 September, and while fans are gearing up for its return, many will notice the absence of Alexis Bledel, who played Emily Malek on the show.

In a statement shared earlier this year, Bledel said that she decided to “step away” from the show.
