“You’re one of the few people who treat me like a person.”

The trailer for Pete Davidson’s latest performance offering, The King of Staten Island, is here.

The film, directed by Judd Apatow, is a semi-autobiographical story following Davidson’s character as he deals with the trauma associated with his father’s passing during 9/11, and his dream to become a stand-up comic.

Davidson is best known for his work on Saturday Night Live and his guest appearance on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

The King of Staten Island was co-written by Apatow, Davidson and former SNL writer Dave Sirus. Marisa Tomei, Maude Apatow, Pamela Adlon and Steve Buscemi also star.

The film was initially planned for theatrical release later this year, but will now be available to rent on-demand from next month.

This is Apatow’s first feature film directing release sine Trainwreck in 2015. He also directed the incredibly successful Knocked Up and is the creator of Freaks and Geeks.

Apatow told Entertainment Weekly that he was attracted to working with Davidson because of his youth.

“I just think when people are young that they have a lot to say,” he said. “They haven’t burned through all their ideas, and they’re usually very passionate about certain stories from their lives.

“The movie is an imagining of what Pete’s life might have been like if he never found comedy. Comedy really was his savior, it gave him direction.

“And in the movie he’s someone who is flailing about, not sure what he should do with his life.”

The King of Staten Island will be available to rent online from June 12, 2020.
