Director Patty Jenkins has said she has high hopes for the legacy of her film, Wonder Woman.

And she doesn’t just mean that audiences will continue to watch the movie for years to come.

Speaking at a press conference this week, Jenkins said that she hopes Wonder Woman‘s release will lead to more women getting more work opportunities – and not just in film, but all industries.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins also said that the movie’s success “…exceeded all of the projections, although not our own hopes.”

“I hope the success of the film will lead to change and lead to other people getting opportunities (…) I hope women become a diverse, easy hire for all sorts of jobs in the future.”

Wonder Woman took home a substantial $400 million at the domestic box office, making it the most successful live-action movie directed by a woman ever.

The film proved far more popular than other DC superhero movies like Suicide Squad and Batman v. Superman.

Wonder Woman‘s star Gal Gadot has also been praised for her promotion of feminist ideals.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine recently, the actress said she doesn’t understand why people ask her if she’s a feminist because she clearly is.

“People always ask me, ‘Are you a feminist?’ And I find the question surprising, because I think, ‘Yes, of course. Every woman, every man, everyone should be a feminist. Because whoever is not a feminist is a sexist.’ ”

Wonder Woman is due for digital release on August 29. Physical copies will be available by September 19.
