They married two-and-a-half years ago following a three-year engagement.
However, it has now been confirmed that Jennifer Aniston and 46-year-old Justin Theroux have split and are to divorce.
Releasing a statement via a publicist, they said their decision was “mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year”.
They added that they wanted to counter rumour and speculation and to “convey the truth directly”.
The statement furthermore reads: “We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”
They couple had not been seen together for some weeks and recently Ms Aniston attended Ellen DeGeneres’s 60th birthday party solo. She also last week celebrated her 49th birthday without him in Malibu, and she attended Amy Schumer’s wedding alone.
Ms Aniston was famously previously married to Brad Pitt from 2000 to 2005. She and Justin became engaged in 2012 and married quietly in 2015 at their Bel-Air estate.
It was revealed in the summer of 2016 that Brad and his second wife, Angelina Jolie, were splitting. They have six children together and are still also in the process of divorcing.
Last year, it was reported that Mr Pitt made amends with Jen. “He’s been determined to apologise for everything he put her through, and that’s exactly what he did,” a source told In Touch.
“He also made amends for leaving her Angelina.”
