Unfortunately, everyone knows a family affected by cancer. When it involves a young child though, it can make a tough battle that much harder.

So when we saw these snaps of Harley Renshaw, our hearts melted.

Harley is fighting a rare form of cancer in his kidney, neck, lung and bones, but he amazed staff when he asked them if he could decorate the protective medical mask that holds him still while having treatment.

The reason for his arts and crafts?

According to Manchester Evening News, he told hospital staff his Ninja Turtle mask makes him feel stronger while having his treatment.

Harley’s mum Stacey said they learned of her little boy’s illness after bringing him to the doctor’s with a pain in his tummy. He was later diagnosed with neuroblastoma – a rare and aggressive childhood cancer.

Following 80 days of chemotherapy and an operation to remove his kidney tumour, Harley returned to hospital for a stem cell transplant.

Mum Stacey, told the paper:

“We couldn’t be prouder of our boy. He has had such a lot to deal with, but he just takes it all in his stride and gets on with it. He is a true inspiration and he is our superhero.”

Harley thankfully is now on the mend, and has been nominated as one of Cancer Research UK’s Little Star Awards.

This child is a real-life superhero.
