Google has edited their salad emoji to make it suitable for vegans

Jade Hayden

OK, cool.

It’s 2018, which means that there are a fair few more vegan options out and about.

In most regular supermarkets, you’ll find yourself faced with vegan cheese, vegan burgers, vegan sausage rolls, vegan chips (most chips are vegan, lads), and vegan ice cream.

It’s a no-meat, no-dairy paradise these days and the world is better for it.

Google has even decided to jump on the vegan bandwagon but they haven’t opened any vegan restaurants or introduced an inordinate number of new vegan meals to their employee lunch menus.

No, nothing like that.

They’ve just removed the boiled egg from their salad emoji.

K.

Here was the salad emoji pre-veganism.

And here it is after.

Egg, gone.

This would be a totally grand decision, however we have found a few faults with the updated, vegan-friendly emoji.

The first is that there is now no main ingredient to this salad – it’s just leaves and two tomato slices.

Not even a dribble of balsamic vinegar.

Honestly, like.

We know vegans have a somewhat restricted diet but they’re not totally devoid of a need for flavour.

Just imagine showing up to Chopped and being like yeah, I’ll have the iceberg and tomato.

Not even sundried.
