The long weekend and supermarkets: are Lidl, Aldi, Dunnes, Tesco and SuperValu open?

Because we need supplies.

Gillian Fitzpatrick

Happy Good Friday!

You may or may not be in work today – dependant on your industry and employer – but regardless there is a long weekend in the offing and in all likelihood you’ll need supplies at some stage.

That or you’ll be doing a last-minute Easter egg haul.

And, of course, this year we can all also buy alcohol on Good Friday – a day that has traditionally been booze-free. You can purchase alcohol from 10.30am and 10pm on Good Friday and Easter Saturday, and from 12.30pm to 10.00pm on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.

So when are the likes of your local Lidl, Aldi, Dunnes, Tesco, and SuperValu open?

Here, we investigate…

Aldi:

Good Friday March 30: 9am – 10pm

Easter Saturday March 31: 9am – 9pm

Easter Sunday: Closed

Easter Monday April 2: 9am – 9pm

Lidl:

Good Friday March 30: 8am – 10pm

Easter Saturday March 31: 8am – 10pm

Easter Sunday: Closed

Easter Monday April 2: 9am – 9pm

Tesco:

Tesco is a good bet if you need something later at night as many of them stay open until 11pm – including on Easter Sunday. We had a quick root around and it seems that a good few of the bigger stores will be open on Easter Sunday, with smaller Metro and Express outlets being shut.

You can check out your local branch here.

Dunnes Stores:

Opening times vary from store to store but most branches will have standard opening hours on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.

Many will be closed on Easter Sunday with limited opening hours on the bank holiday Monday.

You can check out your local branch here.

SuperValu:

Different stores operate under different owners, so SuperValu doesn’t have standardised opening hours. If you click here you can enter your local store and find out.
