Forget building forts with boxes of your belongings and enjoying nice cups of tea in your new home, moving house is about stressing out and making a load of telephone calls you don’t really want to make.
Here are the 10 things that happen when you move...
1. You’ll lose/ forget/ break something
It’s inevitable that something will not make it from your old home to your new one. Get over it.
2. You’ll have to buy at least one thing for the new house
Be it something necessary (like a kettle) or something to make your new house a home (candles never fail), you’ll have to fork out for something.
3. You’ll forget that you’ve moved
Just pray that you realise before you try to get into your old home with your new key.
4. You’ll have to do the dreaded transfer
From the electricity account to the television licence, you will spend quite a few hours on the phone getting everything switched over and no it’s not as easy as one, two, three.
5. You’ll have at least one argument
It will probably be with the person on the receiving end of the above telephone call... or your roommate who is completely useless.
6. You’ll underestimate how much stuff you own
Take what you think you have and triple it.
7. You’ll realise that the “hard part” is yet to come
The hard part isn’t over when you find a house, it’s only just beginning.
8. You’ll have a last toast/ first toast
Any excuse!
9. You’ll at least talk about a house-warming party
Yes you should have a house-warming party but chances are you’ll either care too much about your new home or you’ll be too tired to organise it.
10. You’ll hurt yourself
It could be anything from a paper cut to a sore back, you will not come out of this unscathed.
