Those were the days, eh? That's a phrase that we like to use a lot but unfortunately, we are beginning to use it a little bit more often lately. You just don't really appreciate how good you have it when you're a kid, youth is most certainly wasted on the young. Here are ten things that we really miss from our childhoods.
1. Summers off.
Ah, those amazing days when all we had to do was worry about what ice-cream we would have and what time to take our naps at. Now, well we still have to go to work. Work. No.
2. Mammy looking after us.
Mammy was the best, wasn't she? You could rely on her for everything, particularly when you were sick. Out came the 7-Up, the blankets and you took up your residence on the temporary bed on the couch. Now? Well, you'll just have to go to the pharmacy on your lunch break.
3. Cooked dinners.
"Your dinner is in the microwave." Music. To. Our. Ears.
4. Fat Frogs and Ice-cream sandwiches.
Most of the time when you get an ice-cream now, you have to have a Magnum or something sophisticated but we really miss the days of ice-cream sandwiches and Fat Frogs.
5. School.
Yes, at the time we couldn't wait to get out and be our own person but who wouldn't love to go back to those classrooms and play football in the school yard? That was really living the dream.
6. Cartoons.
Saturday mornings, cartoons, this was the life. Sure you never had to worry about a lie-in! EVERY DAY WAS A LIE-IN!
7. Nice weather.
Was it just us or was the weather a whole lot nicer when we were kids? We think it was.
8. Family Holidays.
We dreaded those family holidays when we were kids but now when we look back on them, they just seemed so relaxing. Where shall we eat dinner? Who cares? Our parents will drive us there and then pay for it.
9. Naps.
Imagine if we could just take ourselves off in the middle of the work day and have a bit of a nap? How amazing would that be? Well, when we were kids that happened. That happened all the time.
10. Trick or treating.
If you go trick or treating as an adult, people tend to think that's a little creepy. So instead you just sit in your fancy dress consuming all the sweets by yourself. It's certainly not as much fun.‘I’m a 29-year-old woman and my income would shock my friends if it was made public’
