An Irish name made it on the list…
Naming a baby is no easy feat.
On top of trying to come up with a name that will suit a human you haven’t yet met for presumably their whole life, other people are always weighing in with their two cents.
So, many people consult baby name books or listicles on parenting sites like ours for a bit of guidance. But let’s be real, even those aren’t without judgement.
One such site based in the UK, Emma’s Diary, is currently causing a stir for its list of what it deems are “possibly the worst” 100 baby names.
While some we feel are absolutely valid, others are a little… well, harsh.
For example, fairly common names like Alice and John make it onto the list, and we can’t see anything wrong with them other than the fact that they’re well-used.
Deirdre also features on the girls’ list, which feels a little Hibernophobic if you ask us. Their reasoning? “All we can think of are huge glasses.” Well, Emma’s Diary, while you might know it as pronounced Dear-dree from Corrie, your neighbours know its Irish mythological origins and mostly pronounce it as Dear-dra, a perfectly lovely name. Not that we’re biased, or anything.
Their full list of “possibly the worst baby names” are below. The site promises that it’s all in good fun and that regardless of their opinion, you should name your baby whatever you like. Now if you don’t mind me, I have to get Hellzel and Lucifer’s lunch ready.
