8 solo city breaks you should definitely do if you’re travelling alone

Travelling alone can be intimidating.

But it's also probably the best thing in the world. You do everything when you want to do it, go where you want to go, and see what you want to see - it's pretty much like travelling with friends, except with none of the hassle (sorry, lads). Still though, if you've never taken a solo trip before, picking somewhere to visit can be incredibly daunting. So in order to make the decision that little bit easier, we've put together a list of European countries that are absolutely ideal places to hit up if you're heading off on a solo trip. 1. Budapest Budapest has legit got everything you could possibly need for a city break away - stunning views, incredible history, and unreal nightlife. Split between the old town and the new town, you won't be stuck for walking tours, beautiful architecture, or bars to pop in and out of while you're there. It's also dirt cheap - always a plus. 2. Prague Look, if you've never been to Prague, please go to Prague immediately. And better yet, go alone. With the amount of museums, cathedrals, and general stunning buildings on offer, you could spend an entire month walking around that city and not feel like you've really taken it all in. It's also got an intense amount of bars and clubs because, you know, trips aren't all about the scenery. 3. Berlin Berlin is stunning in the summer. Actually, it's stunning in the winter too. And the autumn, and spring, and yeah, kind of everything in between. The city is probably one of the most perfect places for a solo trip because there's no way you're going to run out of things to do. The place is absolutely crawling with history, museums, monuments, and relics from times before but not all that long ago. It's also got a mad kinda nightlife that'll make any seemingly 'cool' club you've been to back home seem absolutely tame in comparison. 4. Krakow Krakow is old. Like, really old. But in a good way because in this case being old means a plethora of incredible sights to see, places to go, and history to absorb while you're munching on some golonka. Go have a look at Schindler's factory, see the botanical gardens, and just wander around to your hearts content before hitting up some of the many bars for an increasing amount of, course, vodka. Can't go wrong, really. 5. Amsterdam  Just rent yourself a bike and cycle - that's it. Even that one lone activity would be enough to make you feel like you spent your solo time in Amsterdam well. Because you would have done. Other notable Amsterdam bits include checking out the Anne Frank House, going to the cheese museum for breakfast (across from the Anne Frank House), and hitting up one of the houseboats along the canal. One of them is a cat rescue. Just saying. 6. Reykjavik Yeah, Reykjavik might be a bit more out of the way than the rest of these places but you know before you even go that it's going to be 100 percent worth it. Iceland's capital, the city plays host to a range of incredible day tours including whale watching, horseback riding, exploring the golden circle, and even glacier hikes. And yeah, most of these don't sound like the most relaxing activities but afterwards you can pop yourself into a hot tub and look out at some ice so really, what else could you possibly need? 7. Copenhagen  Copenhagen is expensive, but it's worth it. You might be dropping about 8 quid on a pint but you'll be having that pint in one of the most chilled out cities in Europe. It's got to be worth it. You've got the Little Mermaid, you've got pretty houses, and you've got the second oldest amusement park in the world, Tivoli Gardens. Plenty to keep yourself occupied if you're in the mood for a more chilled out, less intense break. 8. Seville  Go to Seville and you might as well just head right back to the sixteenth century (in a good way). They've got cathedrals, they've got gothic churches, they've got flamenco dancing, palaces, and ancient lanes for you to get absolutely lost in when you're wandering around the place for the inevitable weeks that you're going to have to spend exploring. Basically, you better bring your Gram game because you are going to be taking approximately 10k photos while you're there. Stunning.
