Next time you feel guilty about pouring yourself a glass of wine in the evening, bear in mind it may actually be good for your health.
Research can now explain how the habit of drinking a glass or two could prevent you from developing thinning bones.
The latest findings from the International Scientific Forum on Alcohol Research have found that post-menopausal women who drink two glasses of wine a day benefit from improved bone strength and density.
“Wahooo!” we hear you say.
According to the Irish Examiner, the University of Oregon research said that the glass of vino could even work better than medication, provided the drinking is kept in check.
The study was based on the life experiences of 40 women in their mid-to-late 50s.
According to the experts, those who had two small glasses of wine per day were shown to have stronger bones in the medium-term, keeping and improving, balance into older age.
“The results suggest an effect of moderate alcohol consumption similar to the effects of bone-density drugs,” the researchers concluded.
We love this kind of research.
The message is clear, let us enjoy a daily tipple as it will only do us good.
Just no cheating with the size of the glass...
