Yawning is extremely contagious… so what could be more difficult than watching this compilation of yawns?!
Fifty-five per cent of people who witness somebody yawn will also yawn within five minutes. We did a little bit of research to find out why.
Although the contagious nature of yawning is well established, researchers are giving the topic some serious attention to discover why. For now, one theory suggests it’s a holdover from a period in evolutionary history when yawning served to coordinated the social behaviour of animals.
A recent study said that contagious yawning could be part of the “neural network involved in empathy.”
