Peter Coonan has admitted that he struggled to watch a rape scene involving his character in Sunday's finale of Love/Hate.
Over 1m viewers tuned in to watch the final episode of the homegrown drama's fifth series, which saw Coonan's character Fran being raped with a pool cue while in prison.
Speaking to
Newstalk Breakfast, the actor said that he had extensive discussions with show creator Stuart Carolan ahead of filming and he was as surprised as the rest of the
Love/Hate audience by how the final scenes played out.
"You know it made sense in regards to the character and the arch of the character, and this alpha male brought down to this level - and for it to be so graphic as well, was it the right choice?
"But these things happen - it was hard to watch as well for me. I watched it the other night just like everyone else; I didn't even know the Tom character was being shot."
