The Advertising Standards Authority in the UK has banned an ad that appeared in Conde Nast Traveller Magazine because it showed a very thin model, which they have deemed as ‘unhealthily thin’.
The advert in question showed the model on a beach and also appeared in Conde Nast Traveller’s sister magazine Glamour earlier in the year.
A reader complained about the model’s size and frame, suggesting that she was too slim.
The ASA reviewed the advert and decided that it was irresponsible so they banned it from being shown in the UK.
According to Buzzfeed, the ASA said the following on the advert:
“We acknowledged that the ad was for a travel magazine and that its focus was not supposed to be on the model or her clothes, however, we considered that the model was the focal point of the image.
Therefore, we concluded that the ad made the model look unhealthily thin and that the ad was irresponsible.”
