A New Zealand advertising company has been forced to apologise for adopting a transphobic slogan with their Christmas campaign mocking Caitlyn Jenner.
Cranium Signage featured the infamous Caitlyn Jenner Vanity Fair cover, photoshopped to include a Santa hat, and a crude, offensive caption:
"I hope your sack is fuller than mine this Christmas."
After some initial complaints, the company offered a half-apology, marking the signs with a ‘censored’ poster (as caught on Twitter below):
According to the
Huffington Post, local LGBT communities and supporters applied pressure on the company to reconsider their controversial decision, pointing to high suicide rates in the community and a lack of respect to those transitioning.
The company has now been forced to make a sincere apology, including a $1,000 donation to Rainbow Youth – an organisation that supports LGBT youth.
Owner Phillip Garratt has since released an apology via the company’s Facebook page:
The move comes just weeks after a Dublin flooring company launched a campaign
encouraging customers to ‘take a leap’ and ‘go for the change’, featuring an image of Caitlyn Jenner on their marketing posters.
