The amount of pints Irish politicians drank in the the Dáil bar in 2016

Her

Thirsty work.

There were over 15,000 pints of draft beer sold in the Dáil bar last year with Guinness by far and away the most popular drink among Irish politicians.

The black stuff generated €33,400 in revenue from the sale of 7,591 pints which was twice as much as the next most popular drink Heineken.

The third most popular draft beer was Smithwicks followed by Carlsberg, Budweiser and Peroni. There aren’t many cider drinkers in the government as only 484 pints of Bulmers were sold.

The total cash amount from the sale of the 15,116 units adds up to €68,956. If you break down the numbers, it means €757 was spent every day the Dáil sat in 2016, which was 91 days.

The figures are from the Houses of the Oireacthas Service.
