Anne Doyle’s knowing smile, Brian Dobson’s cool, suave style, Sharon Ní Bheolain’s cúpla focail… Ireland has had some pretty epic newsreaders for the last number of years (we still haven’t gotten over Anne’s retirement).
But sneaking from the back of the pack to become runaway favourite when it comes to winning the nation's affections has to be the legend that is Anchorman: Aengus MacGrianna.
We can’t imagine that presenting the main evening news to the country every night is a barrel of laughs for him, but he’s certainly managed to make it one for us.
Amidst talk of recession, corrupt politicians, protest after protest and life getting more expensive by the second – Aengus comes along to make it ok to laugh again.
Last night’s ‘Max Factor Moment’ was our favourite so far; the presenter was caught on camera unaware while fixing his makeup and suit, and his “WHAT” when he learns what’s going on is comedy gold.
However if last night’s incident is the first you’ve seen of this shining light in Irish news broadcasting, check out the video above, a compilation of his finest moments yet.
Aengus, we happily welcome you into our living rooms every night - more of this please. And if you could sign off with 'You stay classy Ireland', well that would be just super. Thanks in advance.
