Hollywood star Vince Vaughn has been confirmed for the second season of HBO’s hit series, True Detective.

The new role will see him star alongside Irish actor Colin Farrell, who was announced as one of the stars for the show earlier this week.

The series, which was nominated for five Emmys and awarded one, has earned a cult following since its release.

It is believed that Farrell will play character Ray Velcoro, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”

Meanwhile, it is reported that Vaughn will star as Frank Seymon “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”

The story will focus on three police officers and a criminal who must navigate through a conspiracy in the wake of a murder.

The first two episodes of the new season will be directed by Fast and Furious 6 director Justin Lin and is reportedly going to be set in California, but not in LA. The eight-part drama will go into production in the coming months.

Who will play the third police officer is not yet known, as Rachel McAdams and Elisabeth Moss continue to be the hot favourites to bag a role.
