Want to work abroad? These are the best countries to move to

Olivia Hayes

Dream of working or living abroad?

It’s a big leap to take – and whether you’re forced to by the bleak working conditions in Ireland, or if it’s just been your plan all along, it can be scary and exciting all at the same time.

If you’re thinking about doing the Big Move, it can be overwhelming trying to find the right place to go.

However, a new survey by HSBC has shown which countries are the best to move to if you want to take the leap.

The one that came out on top? Singapore.

Yep, it ranked fairly high in most things – 3rd for economics, 5th for families and 6th for experience.

However, the work-life balance isn’t so great as stated by those who conducted the survey – it’s common that everyone does a 5-and-a-half day week, meaning you don’t have much down time.

Saying that though, it’s very much a work-hard-play-hard city, with those living there saying that they use their time off to party and socialise.

Other places that made the top 5 were New Zealand, Canada and Germany. People living in these places praise the countries for friendly locals and a good work-life balance – never mind being paid more for the job they do.

Meanwhile, Bahrain ranked highest for the best pay, with expats living over there saying that they are paid 50 percent more than they were at home for the same job.

The top 5:

  1. Singapore (best overall)
  2. New Zealand (the answer to better health and wellbeing)
  3. Germany (offers time out to prevent burn out)
  4. Canada (best chance to become a local)
  5. Bahrain (the economic challenger)
