Grandparents were also concerned that certain names of today would embarrass the child and of course there were the ones whose names reminded them of people they disliked and some grandparents were even upset that the child wasn’t given a name that was passed down.
Other reasons given was that the name was ‘too plain or ugly’ (bit harsh), too difficult to pronounce or to say.
Grannies also tend to be more peeved over the whole child naming scenario compared to grandads, with 44 percent of parents claiming the complaints came from their own mothers and 42 percent received complaints from their mother-in-law.
Parents claimed 14 percent of disproval came from their own fathers and another 14 percent from their dad-in-law. The saddest part of all? Six percent of parents and grandparents have fallen out over the issue, with four percent deciding to end their relationship completely.
Mumsnet Founder Justine Roberts said,
"Choosing a baby name is fraught enough for parents when you’re only taking into account your own views.
