Big changes ahead for Twitter

Cassie Delaney

Rumors about the evolution of Twitter have been rife for months.

Previously we believed the hype that they were scraping the 140-characted limit completely but CEO Jack Dorsey denied those claims not so long ago.

Now, however, a report by Bloomberg indicates that we will be getting a bit more space to share our streams of consciousness.

According to the report, a source close to the matter has confirmed that the tech giant is increasing Tweet size by pulling the image link and URLs from the character limit. At the moment, an image will take 24 characters and a link eats up 23.

Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey said in January that the company were exploring new ways to share text on the platform, and would experiment based on how people use the service.

They’ve been looking at the frequency in which people tell stories across multiple tweets and also the frequency of people sharing screenshots of larger blocks of text.

The original 140-character limit was based off the limit on text messages.
