Bride and groom’s ‘tacky’ request leaves wedding guest disgusted

What is wrong with people?!

STOP.

There’s been a run of horror wedding tales in recent times and the one we’ve come across today takes the biscuit.

It might be a few months old but that doesn’t take away from the shock factor or the cheeky nature of this particular request.

As shared on Mumsnet, the source of many an awful wedding etiquette experience, this user shares how a couple used their wedding invite to ask for financial gifts.

Yes, really.

The post reads:

“We have been invited to a wedding. Evening invite only. The invitation included a tacky poem asking for cash gifts.

The bottom line is, we can’t really afford to give cash. Generally I’d put my feelings about this type of request aside and give what was asked for but I think the very small amount we can afford to give will look mean”.

What’s worse is those who were invited to the entire day didn’t receive the tacky poem and that’s just plain wrong.

The user went on to explain that she and her partner can’t afford to give cash and it’s just so awful that she’s feeling bad that the ideas she has for a gift, donation to a charity or a present for the couple, aren’t deemed acceptable.

Unsurprisingly, the majority of people who replied to the post on the internet sharing forum said that this was rude, out of order and that they would go and just bring a bottle of fizz.

You can check the replies here in full and we have to say we’re in agreement re the fact that this poem is ‘tacky’ and it would completely put you off going to the wedding at all.
