Calling All Bookworms! Get on Board for the Her.ie Book Club

We're kicking off the Her.ie book club with Labor Day, our recommended read for February.

If you love nothing more than curling up on the couch with a good book and a cuppa, you’re our kind of girl. Here at Her.ie Towers we’ve been looking for new ways to get our readers involved in the fun we get up to every day, so without further ado we’re launching the Her.ie Book Club.

Every month we’ll be recommending one read you should get your hands on. You’ll have the next few weeks to read said tome, then we’ll be looking for your opinions on our Book of the Month.

We’ll be recording a Book Club podcast in our offices every month, and penning our reviews, so your comments could be featured on these very pages. We also have some great plans in store for upcoming competitions and events linked to our new club.

We’re kicking it all off with February’s recommended read, Labor Day.

This coming-of-age novel by Joyce Maynard was published in 2009, and a big screen adaptation starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin is set to hit cinemas next month. We’re big proponents of reading the book before seeing the movie, so right now we’re all powering our way through this one.

The story is told through the eyes of 13-year-old Henry Wheeler, whose mother takes in a convicted felon after he escapes from a nearby prison. The events that take place over the course of one hot and sticky Labor Day weekend will change the course of their lives forever.

In the coming weeks we’ll be chatting with author Joyce Maynard and giving you the heads up on several other reads you might enjoy if you like this book, but for now get started on Labor Day and don’t forget to let us know your thoughts.

You can get in touch on Facebook here, on Twitter here and via email to [email protected]. Happy reading!
