Over the last few months we’ve heard a lot about people leaving EastEnders so it comes as a welcome surprise that someone is actually returning.
Charlie Slater (Derek Martin) is making a comeback to the square this Christmas for a special storyline involving Kat (Jessie Wallace).
While it is only for one episode, it is something that show bosses are very excited about. An insider told the Daily Star Sunday: “There’s a special Kat storyline happening at Christmas and it wouldn’t have been the same if Charlie wasn’t a big part of it all.”
They added: “Derek was more than happy to come back… The pair of them have always been very close and there’s some really emotional and happy stuff between them.”
Derek played Charlie for 11 years before leaving the soap in 2011. He has made a number of guest appearances since but has no plans to return on a permanent basis.
