It may be March but it looks as though we haven’t escaped the chilly winter weather just yet. In fact, if reports today are to be believed, Ireland is set to be covered in a blanket of snow by the end of the weekend… Now where did we leave our gloves?
The Irish Daily Star reports that the mild spring weather we’ve had over the past few weeks is expected to suddenly give way to wintry winds, ice, frosty fog and showers of snow. Great, right? (note: we’re being sarcastic – we hate the cold!).
Temperatures are expected to plummet to a freezing -1?C tomorrow night and Met Eireann have warned that there is the chance that there will be some significant snowfalls in large parts of Leinster, Munster and Ulster.
The sudden cold snap is being blamed on a gusty northeast Siberian type wind and is expected to last for at least three days if not longer.

Time to dig out the hats, scarves and gloves again!
A spokesman for Met Eireann said that from tomorrow on there’ll be widespread wintry weather.
“It will become very cold everywhere with temperatures falling to low single figures as the day goes on,” said the spokesman.
“Monday will also be extremely cold with temperatures just a few degrees above freezing at best in stiff northeast winds. A few wintry showers are also expected with severe frost again at night,” he added.
According to weather boffins at Irish Weather Online, there is a 70 per cent chance of snow by tomorrow night.
It sounds like Sunday night will be a night for the fire, a mug of tea and some fleecy pjs!
