Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons has issued a public apology following the actions of one of its owners.

The manager, based in a Vancouver branch of the company, allegedly dumped water on a homeless man while he slept on the ground outside the store.

Michelle Robichaud, Manager of Social Media for the company, said in a statement: “The regretful actions in a moment of frustration at one of our Vancouver locations is not at all reflective of our brand and restaurant owner values. On behalf of Tim Hortons we sincerely apologise.”

Robichaud added that the owner in question will make a personal apology and offer a donation to a local Vancouver shelter.

The Canadian coffee chain has apologised after customer calls for a boycott

The apology comes after a Facebook post detailing the incident went viral, sparking calls for a boycott of the company.

Customer Arianne Summach posted: “CALLING A BOYCOTT: The manager of TIM HORTONS on Robson and Richards, literally just dumped a very large bucket of water all over a homeless man (and all his worldly belongings, cardboard bed included), for sitting out front of the shop. He was sleeping when it happened.”

The post was shared thousands of times. Speaking to Global News, Summach said: “At first I just thought I was going to share it between friends.”

“It’s pretty impressive. It just shows people that if they see something, they can raise up and everyone has a voice.”
