Controversial! Six Reasons Why The Fall Is Better Than Love/Hate

TV drama doesn't come much better than this... No spoilers within!

TV drama doesn’t come much better than this…

The second season of The Fall kicks off right after the finale of Love/Hate, promising one whole evening of nail-bitingly tense television.

As much as we’re devastated to wave goodbye to Nidge, Fran and co once more, we are delighted to welcome the incredible cast of The Fall into our living rooms again.

The departure of one hit series and the welcoming back of another sparked a controversial debate in office – which show is better?

Here are six reasons why certain members of the Her.ie team think The Fall is better then Love/Hate.

1. Catching Up Is Easy

Jamie Dornan - Bed

So you’re not really that great at keeping up with what’s on TV and feel completely left out when people at work are chatting about just how great a certain television show is. Well fret not, because catching up on The Fall is easy.

With only one season down and five episodes to watch, you could manage it in one sitting. Just make sure you’ve the doors locked and have company, this isn’t really one to enjoy in bed alone.

2. The Accent

Ah, there’s nothing quite like hearing grown men struggle with the number three. We are very fond of the northern brogue and it may be something to do with being used to hearing the Dublin speak.

Did someone just say ‘situation’?! *People rewind TV to watch again*

3. It’s Winning Awards…

We’re not for one moment saying that Love/Hate is not bringing the accolades to the RTÉ mantelpiece but The Fall took home three awards at this year’s Irish Film & Television Awards, including Best Drama, Best Actor for Dornan and Best Music. A massive achievement for its first year.

If it is good enough for the IFTAs then it is good enough for us.

4. Different Type Of Suspense

The public haven’t always been happy with certain scenarios in Love/Hate i.e. the death of Darren and the finale of the fifth series. The same cannot however be said for The Fall.

With cold-sweat-inducing tense moments in every other scene, situations in The Fall have you looking at others around the room in sheer panic.

The Fall constantly leaves you unsettled, on edge and checking underneath your bed for Paul Spector. We’ve never checked for Fran or Nidge underneath our bed…

5. Female Detectives

Detective Moynihan is a lovely man and so too are the other lads but it is great to see two females playing lead policing roles in The Fall. Yes, women can solve crimes too you know.

Stella Gibson is intelligent, fierce, independent and strong, she gets things done fast. Nidge and the lads wouldn’t get away so easily under her watchful eye.

Also, we love her for moments like this…

6. Jamie Dornan

Now we’re not suggested for one minute that there is no eye candy in Love/Hate, Fran is a hunk, Nidge has that look in his eye and Elmo is a cutie but Jamie Dornan is so attractive it almost hurts.

Oh, and there’s scenes like this…

Enough said.

The second season of the Belfast based thriller will see Jamie’s character Paul Spector embroiled in a game of cat and mouse with DSI Stella Gibson, played by the phenomenal Gillian Anderson.
