Cork bride to hold ‘fake wedding’ today as registry office isn’t open

A Cork bride will hold a “fake” wedding today after she heard the registry office would remain closed due to the harsh weather conditions.

Mia Bronotte plans to go ahead with her wedding reception in Castle Hotel, Macroom, despite not being able to access the registry office.

She and her husband-to-be, David Walsh, are going to have a “fake” wedding, “and do the legal stuff next week.”

The Australian born woman told Neil Prendeville on Cork’s Red FM:

“We’ll probably say our vows with my sister as a fake registrar.

“It hard to believe. Most of the time it’s raining and that’s what we were expecting on my wedding day, but now it’s just snowing.”

The pair met two years ago when David was working in Sydney.

They had planned to marry in his local registry office today but unfortunately had to put the official part of their plan on hold.

Mia’s dad, who was due to attend the wedding, could not get a flight out of Amsterdam to attend the ceremony.

A status red weather warning has been issued for the entire country until later today.

Those living in Leinster and Munster are advised to take “extreme caution” if going outside today.
