‘Curvy’ wife guy, or – as he was once known – Robbie Tripp, has finally responded to criticisms about his Instagram post where he told the internet that he loves his wife even though she is curvy.

In the post, Robbie shared a photo of him and wife Sarah on a beach, gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes.

In the caption, he said the following:

“I love this woman and her curvy body. As a teenager, I was often teased by my friends for my attraction to girls on the thicker side, ones who were shorter and curvier, girls that the average (basic) bro might refer to as “chubby” or even “fat.”

Then, as I became a man and started to educate myself on issues such as feminism and how the media marginalizes women by portraying a very narrow and very specific standard of beauty (thin, tall, lean) I realized how many men have bought into that lie.”

He also said that even though Sarah “won’t be the one featured on the cover of Cosmopolitan,” he loved her anyway.

The author and entrepreneur received much criticism for his post, with many Instagram users saying that he should not be praised for being attracted to his wife.

Others claimed that his gross misunderstanding of feminism and the body positivity movement was clear from his post, which arguably was shared to draw attention to himself, and not his wife.

The couple appeared on Good Morning Britain this morning to respond to the criticism Robbie received.

According to Robbie, he regularly posts pictures celebrating his wife’s body because she inspires him.

“The overwhelming positivity and love we’ve received, from it, women sharing messages on how it helped them accept their bodies, to love themselves more when they don’t see representation in the mainstream media of their body type.”

He also said that he had received messages of praise from people in Saudi Arabia and Mauritius.

Sarah also defended her husband, saying that many people did not have context for the post, and that talking about her “curvy” body is “not an abnormal conversation for us.”

Body image advocate Natasha Devon later responded to Robbie’s claims on the show, saying that he should not expect to be praised for what he said.

“He’s fundamentally misunderstood what feminism and the body confidence movement is all about.

With this particular post, I almost feel that he wanted a medal, saying “aren’t I amazing, my woman doesn’t conform to these normal standards of beauty. Therefore I deserve attention”.”
