Save money and do some good for the world around you by using simple measures to conserve energy in the home. If you’re not sure where to start – don’t worry! We’ll be bringing you one great energy-saving tip every day for the next few weeks.
Get laundry smart
Doing the weekly wash is never fun but did you know that with a few simple changes, every time you put on a wash, you could end up saving yourself some money?
We all know that appliances use up a lot of electricity, therefore it’s important to get the best bang for our buck in this department and take advantage of the electricity we’ll be using.
When it comes to doing the washing, have a look at the temperature settings on your washing machine. Always, always, always wash your clothes on the lowest water temperature possible. It’s a good idea to let your dirty clothes build up too so you always have a full load of washing. This means that not only will you be getting nice, clean clothes, you’ll also be saving money and doing your bit for the environment.
If you’re a fan of using the tumble dryer to get stuff ready-to-wear, split your laundry into two separate piles. Put all heavy items of clothing (like jeans and sweaters) into one pile and put light items of clothing (like t-shirts and blouses) into the other. Dry both batches separately and turn off the dryer as soon as your clothes are dry to the touch.
For an added energy-saving boost, take advantage of the natural elements and dry your clothes using a washing line when it’s a nice or blustery day outside.
