Save money and do some good for the world around you by using simple measures to conserve energy in the home. If you’re not sure where to start – don’t worry! We’ll be bringing you one great energy-saving tip every day for the next few weeks.
Save Energy By Switching Off
Every home has rooms that are constantly used and rooms that are hardly ever used. Maybe you have a front room that’s only used when Granny comes to visit or a guest room that you never venture into.
If you’re looking for an easy, smart and effective way to save money and do your bit for the environment, spend five minutes thinking about which rooms you never use (or don’t use on a regular basis) and then do the following...
First and foremost, make sure all the windows are closed and that there’s no drafts getting in. If you can feel a breeze, it might be worth doing a bit of DIY and filling in any gaps around your windows.
Secondly, turn off your radiators. If you never use a certain room, why bother wasting money and electricity by heating it?
Likewise, if the heating is on, get the most out of it by making sure the windows and doors are closed. This means that the heat stays in the room and doesn’t blow out the window.
You’ll be surprised at how much money you can save by simply switching off a few radiators in your home.
