Save money and do some good for the world around you by using simple measures to conserve energy in the home. If you’re not sure where to start – don’t worry! We’ll be bringing you one great energy-saving tip every day for the next few weeks.
Be careful in the kitchen
We all have bad habits but did you know that when it comes to wasting electricity, the vast majority of us are guilty of doing it in the kitchen?
Naturally the kitchen is going to be one of the biggest drains on your electricity bill because of all the appliances in it. In order to save money and lower your electricity costs, it’s important to be aware of the smaller appliances in your kitchen.
For example, your toaster. Did you know that your toaster is far more energy efficient than your grill when it comes to making toasted sandwiches? Invest in a packet of reusable sandwich toasting bags and start using the toaster as opposed to the grill – you may think it won’t make much of a difference in terms of your energy usage, but you’ll be surprised.
Likewise, when your making tea or coffee, try to only boil the amount of water that you need (just make sure that the heating elements of your kettle are covered completely to avoid wear, tear and burning). By doing this, your water will heat faster and you’ll save some money too!
