Dads, don’t you just love them? They always go above and beyond the call of duty for us. They’re awesome. And this Irish dad is no exception. Des Joyce from Glinsk in north-east Galway has donated a bull worth €3,000 to his daughter’s primary school in a bid to help keep it open.
The Irish Independent reports that Glinsk National School approached parents for raffle prizes to help them raise funds in order to carry out some much-needed maintenance work on the school itself.
Mr Joyce, whose eight-year-old daughter Ava is a student at the school, donated a 15-month-old pedigree Limousin bull to the school. The bull is worth a whopping €3,000.
“We did it for the survival of the school. It’s under pressure. We were talking about what we could raffle and I said I’d put up a bull. It’s something different and it’s got people talking,” said Mr Joyce.
“My daughter is a student there and we’ve two more due to go. It’s also the school I went to. We want to keep it open,” he added.

‘Hero’ the bull has started an absolute frenzy of sales for the raffle tickets as many farmers and rural dwellers alike are eager to get their hands on a pedigree bull for the price of a ticket.
“They do get a surprise, I sippose they’re not expecting to win a bull, especially when the tickets only cost €10. We decided to keep the ticket cost low so people might bite small and bite often,” said Mr Joyce, speeking about the unusual prie.
Mr Ward, the principal of the school, said that he had been stunned when the bull was first offered up as a prize.
“Over the years the community of Glinsk has prided itself for its community support and that’s exactly what they are doing now with these prizes,” said Mr Ward.
