Disney Just Took an Important Step Towards Ditching Gender Stereotypes

Slow clap for Disney.

Disney have been applauded for taking an important step towards ditching gender stereotypes.

Customers were happy to note that the Disney Store has changed the way it labels children’s Halloween costumes.

The Mary Sue reports that while the store’s site formerly grouped costumes under the labels “girls” and “boys”, they are now simply grouped together under “kids”.

Previously, most superhero costumes were labelled under “boys” while girls were limited to princess dresses and and pastel shades.

Here’s how the sections on the site looked before:

However, this is the more gender-neutral site as it looks today:

It’s a small but significant step towards a more positive message for parents and children.

More of this!
