Dog waits for owner for one month in spot where their house burned down

Jade Hayden

The best boy? We think so.

A dog has waited in the spot where his home used to be for one month until his owner returned.

Madison the Anatolian shepherd mix was tragically left behind last month when the California wild fires broke out, leaving the town of Paradise in ruins.

Andrea Gaylord had asked a local animal rescue group to check and see if Madison had survived the fire after she herself evacuated.

She was told that the dog was still at the property, awaiting her return.

ABC10 reports that the rescue group ensured that Madison had enough food and water, but they did not take the dog anywhere as he seemed nervous and acted like he did not want to leave the site.

Last week, Gaylord returned for her dog, armed with his favourite food –  a box of Wheat Thin crackers.

“Imagine the loyalty of hanging in in the worst of circumstances and being here waiting,” she said.

“Their instinctual job is to watch the flocks and we’re part of them. It’s a comforting feeling.”

Finally, some good news.
