An eight-year-old boy was accidentally shot by his nine-year-old sister in De Land, Florida yesterday evening.
According to reports, the little girl found a gun belonging to a parent and accidentally fired it, striking her brother.
He was rushed to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital and his condition is reported to be critical.
In the video below, Sergeant Chris Estes says "that there were five children under the age of ten in the house at the time".
DeLand police also said that the children were under the care of two teenagers, aged 15 and 19, yesterday evening.
However, they were left unsupervised when their babysitters went to a nearby shop and this is when the incident is thought to have happened.
The names of those involved have not been released and DeLand police are continuing to investigate the matter.
