Empire Cinema Release Etiquette Guide For Moviegoers

We have all had bad experiences at the cinema. If it’s not somebody seemingly kicking the back of your seat, it’s someone who has forgotten to put their mobile telephone on silent and has decided to have a conversation in the middle of the theatre!

So, although it’s a tad dictatorial, the fact that a cinema chain has brought out an etiquette guide seems like a pretty good idea.

According to reports this morning Empire Cinemas plan to put up posters outlining their 10 golden cinema rules, following a poll that said that half of those asked are put off by other people talking.

The guide tells viwers to keep their talking to a minimum.

Other annoying activities that were mentioned included people making noise with their popcorn, slurping their drinks and putting their feet up on the chairs.

While less than 20 per cent of people revealed that public displays of affection annoy them when they are trying to watch a film, it is another activity which makes the etiquette guide.

Public displays of affection are also forbidden during the film.

The rules will hopefully be sufficient in tackling the problems as two thirds of people admitted that they would never tell fellow audience members off despite being annoyed by their disruptive behaviour.

Television presenter Paul Ross, who is fronting the campaign, said: “We go to the cinema to enjoy, not endure, a movie… Follow Empire Cinema’s Etiquette Guide and abide by its 10 golden rules and we’ll all have a happier, and quieter, viewing experience.”

The rules include no PDAs, no talking, no mobile telephones, no toilet runs, no spoilers on social media sites and no removing of shoes. We know, who on earth would take their shoes off at the cinema? The ground would be so sticky!
