Endangered okapi named after Meghan Markle born in London Zoo

Ah, look at her.

Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement, people haven’t been able to get enough of the former Suits actress.

Her face has been plastered over every major publication, her every outfit has been scrutinised, and she’s even started plastic surgery trends.

No really, she has.

One thing Meghan hadn’t achieved though was having had an endangered animal named after her.

That was, until, quite recently.

Last week, an endangered okapi was born in London Zoo and, in order to celebrate the forthcoming royal wedding, zookeepers decided to name her Meghan.

Bless.

Here she is being born.

And here she is now.

A beautiful girl, if we ever saw one.

Okapis are commonly referred to as zebra giraffes or forest giraffes due to the black and white stripes on their bodies.

They hail from Africa, eat lots of grasses and fruits, and can even live for up to 30 years.

Meghan was born in London Zoo on December 9 to first-time mum Oni and keepers have confirmed that she’s been doing very well.

The human Meghan and Prince Harry are set to wed this May.

The much-anticipated wedding (of the century, let’s be honest like, we’re never going to stop hearing about it), will take place in St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

We’re not entirely sure whether Meghan the okapi has received her invite yet, but we can hope.
