New Year’s Eve is a time for celebrating with loved ones, having a few drinks and reflecting on the year that has passed. But it is also a time for getting squished in the pub, waiting ages for a taxi and getting frustrated with your mobile telephone.
Well Facebook didn’t try to fix all of those problems but it did attempt to sort out the frustration of not getting in touch with friends and family at the stroke of midnight.
The service allowed users to schedule messages to people for midnight tonight.
Too bad its New Year’s ‘Midnight Delivery’ message service had to be taken offline after a blogger exposed a number of flaws in the system.
Jack Jenkins revealed that the messages scheduled by users could also be seen by everyone else who used the service.
He also told the Metro that those due to receive the messages could also be seen and that other users could delete other people’s messages.
Mark Zuckerberg's social media site hasn't had the best of years.
“A very bad part of it all is I think that you can actually delete other people’s messages… I don’t know how a site like Facebook can continue to take these kinds of risks,” he explained.
Facebook took the service offline and the problem is said to have been resolved but this marks another mistake in what has been a rather bad year for the site what with its falling shares and the controversy over the privacy changes made to Instagram.
