And the Oscar goes to Seth MacFarlane! Okay, so he may not be taking home the coveted gong, but it has been confirmed that the Family Guy creator will host the 85th Academy Awards next February.
Although Jimmy Fallon was rumoured to have the gig in the bag, Academy producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron revealed that funnyman Seth will be gripping the reigns of the most important award ceremony of the year earlier today.
The 38-year-old follows in the footsteps of Oscar hosting greats such as Billy Crystal, Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin and Her.ie’s favourite, Hugh Jackman.

Billy Crystal is an Oscar favourite
Following the success of MacFarlane’s latest blockbuster, Ted, and his recent appearances on American comedy show Saturday Night Live, Academy officials believe that the comedian is the perfect fit for the important ceremony.
The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences said: “We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh.
“He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him.”
MacFarlane revealed that he is honoured by the Academy’s decision.

“It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars
“My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast,” he said.
While we love Seth MacFarlane, we’re not sure he fits the bill when it comes to the classiest Hollywood event of the year. We’re not sure the Academy Awards is a fitting place for penis jokes!
The Oscars will be held in February and nominations for the coveted award ceremony are expected to roll out in early January.
