Apparently wet feet and bad moods aren’t the only things our traditionally terrible Irish weather gives us.
According to a new study, cloudy conditions also have an impact on the colour of our hair. In fact it is said to be the reason for the high average of redheads there are in Ireland.

The more cloud, the less sunshine, the more redheads.
Behind Scotland, which has 13 per cent, we have the highest percentage of redheads here. Approximately 10 per cent of the population has flaming locks.
And while scientists have always pondered as to why, it seems they have finally come up with an explanation.
Scottish genetics researcher and Managing Director of Scotland’s DNA project, Alistair Moffat, said that it comes down to the weather.
“Where there are most redheads, there is much more cloud than sunshine. We don’t get enough vitamin D,” he explained.
So there you have it, Irish weather is actually good for something!
