There has already been heavy rain and thunder in parts of the country this morning and it looks set to continue for the rest of the day.
Met Éireann has predicted widespread, heavy downpours with a risk of flooding and thunder as the day progresses.
There will be some bright and sunny spells in between showers and highest temperatures will be in and around 15 to 18 degrees Celsius, so it will still be reasonable mild.
Temperatures will drop slightly tonight to around 9 to 12 degrees Celsius as drier conditions move in.
As for the weekend, Saturday is expected to be dull and cloudy with a mixture of scattered showers and sunny spells. Highest temperatures will be similar to today, between 15 and 19 degrees Celsius.
Tomorrow night is expected to be dry for the most part but patchy outbreaks of rain will return on Sunday which will be a humid day.
Again, there will be some dry spells with a chance of sunshine and temperatures in the high teens so it’s not all bad.
