Just remember these simple steps.

Pretty much everyone is on Instagram these days. It’s a great way to keep in touch, get some much-needed travel inspo and, let’s face it, show off when we are having a great time.

Whether you mostly post selfies, OOTDs or landscapes, there are definitely a few tips you should keep in mind when taking your photos.

These simple tips will take your Instagram photos from just ‘meh’ to ‘wow’!

You’ll be Insta famous in no time.

Focus

Always remember to make sure that your main subject is in focus. For most phones all you have to do is tap the area you would like to focus on. It’s a simple step but it can have a huge impact on your photos.

Ditch the flash

Using your flash is fine for those quick nightclub Snapchats but Instagram pictures always look so much better when they are taken in natural light. You can always brighten them up during the editing process.

Use the rule of thirds

It’s a rule that photographers have used for years but it still works today. Imagine your photo is divided into three sections vertically and horizontally. Try to make sure your main subject is always on one of these lines.

Crop don’t zoom

If you’re trying to take a photo of an object in the distance don’t zoom in on it. Instead simply take your photo and then crop it to the size you would like. By doing this your photos are much clearer and have loads more detail.

Focus on the negatives

Negative space is so important when you are taking photos. When you include lots of empty space your subject stands out so much more. Try to include a little bit of sky, water or even a large wall in your pics to make them pop.

Drop the filters

Filters are fine every now and then but it is better to edit your photos using the tools on Instagram or using an external app. Play around with things like brightness, sharpness, colour and saturation until you are happy with the effect.
