Here’s the perfect spot if you want a spa weekend away with your friends

Grab the gals and go.

With summer fast closing in, we’re starting to organise our little weekend getaways (so necessary).

Obviously we want pretty much everything from this getaway (is that too much to ask?) – a great location, a spa day, nice views, a nice bed to stay in, a swimming pool, an outdoor hot tub, delicious food, and a good gym for when we feel like we’ve been relaxing a bit TOO much (if that’s even possible).

A bit picky, you might say, but if we’re doing this we want to do this right. And, luckily, we found a spot that fits every single one of these criteria on a recent weekend away to one of our absolute favourite Irish cities (hurrah for us!). This luxurious spot is the lovely Galmont Hotel in Galway.

The hotel is located right by Lough Atalia (catch those good views) and less than a five minute walk from Eyre Square, so you can stay out as late as you want without having to worry about a taxi or even a long walk home. We took a little trip to the Town Hall theatre to see a play while we were there, which was an easy ten minute walk from the hotel.

Aside from its centrality though, The Galmont is also jammers with its own fantastic amenities. They have only just launched their new Energize Fitness & Leisure Facility so the gym is entirely new and entirely lovely (we were hit with exactly zero sweaty smells on our visit. An impressive feat). There’s a spin room, a kinetic treadmill, and loads of other top notch equipment for any gym rats out there (plus all the usual necessities, of course). Gym membership is also available so if you’re a local we deffo suggest you check it out.

When you’re finished your gym sesh and feel like a bit of a chill out, you can either have a little soak in their outdoor hot tub, which overlooks the lough (it’s divine), or pop down to their amazing spa and relax in their Thermal Suite.

Lie down on the sand listening to calming music as the lights imitate a full day’s cycle in their Sabia Med or “beach room” (we honestly didn’t want to leave), warm yourself up on their heated relaxation loungers, or take a tropical rain shower in one of their experience showers. There are loads of different thermal experiences to try out and it only costs €35 for a day pass.

Aside from the Thermal Suite, the Galmont Spirit One Spa has a host of different treatments to choose from. We definitely suggest you give yourself a full day so you can enjoy all the best pampering sessions they have to offer. (They also have a wonderfully cosy relaxation area that you can enjoy if you just want a bit of peace and quiet between sessions.) You can check out their full list of treatments here, ranging from facials to bathing ceremonies.

When you’ve started to build up a hunger from all that relaxing (hey, it happens), why not have your dinner in the delish Marina’s Grill, the AA Rosette winning restaurant of 2018/19. Or if you’ve finished up a bit earlier, treat yourself to an afternoon tea overlooking Lough Atalia. It’s only €60 for two people WITH Prosecco. You can also get a 70-minute Spa treatment and afternoon tea deal for only €110. Sure, it’d be rude not to.

Honestly, this was such an enjoyable stay and a perfect place for a little escape with your friends or for a weekend away with Mum. And with Galway right on your doorstep, you’ll be spoiled for things to do.

So start planning that spa weekend, ladies, you deserve it.
