Impossible is nothing. Those three little words are the motto that Sam Bridgman has lived by all his life, and he proved that it was true when he collected his college degree over the weekend.
The Huffington Post reports that Sam suffers from a rare degenerative neuromuscular disorder called Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA). Sam’s illness has left him confined to a motorized wheelchair for most of his life.
However, Sam was determined to walk across the stage and collect his degree when his name was called at his graduation from the University of Portland.
According to reports, Sam has been working regularly with the university’s athlectic trainers to keep his legs active, despite the fact that he is in a wheelchair.
“‘Cause I don’t get to walk anymore, it gives me the ability to feel like I’m walking,’” said Sam.
All of Sam’s hard work paid off though. As the video above shows, Sam, an advocate for FA awareness and research, managed to walk across the stage and accept his degree with a massive smile on his face.
In order to make the moment even more special for the young man, all his classmates and lecturers gave him a standing ovation as he made his way across the stage.
“Truly the most inspirational guy I have ever met! Congratulations Sam!” said one student.
We have no words except what an absolute legend. Sam is definitely an inspiration to us all.
