Our hearts officially melted at this year’s Pride of Britain Awards as schoolboy Ted McCaffrey was named LIDL’s Young Fundraiser of the Year.
The inspirational boy brought a tear to our eye as we learned that as he was waiting for open heart surgery, Ted took it upon himself to raise money to replace the TV in his hospital room. Not for himself though, but for the little girl or boy that would be in the room next.
The kind-hearted boy went on to complete a mini triathlon for the hospital and collapsed in exhaustion at the end – as he had been determined to keep his promise.
He was then made a children’s ambassador for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and also launched a social media campaign asking people to take a photo of their teddy and adding the hash tag #showyourbear along with a donation to Alder Hey.
The young fundraiser is planning another scootathon this year and at the awards the audience were shown a video of a variety of celebrities including Nicole Scherzinger who were all taking part in the selfie with your teddy campaign.
Pop singer Olly Murs was on hand to present Ted (looking absolutely adorable with teddy in hand) with his award at the ceremony, and Ted told Carol Vorderman that he plans to do another triathlon next year.
However, Olly Murs made the youngster’s night, when he gave Ted the surprise of his live – telling him that a private jet was waiting outside to bring him and his family away to Disneyland Paris right that second.
Ted’s face and reaction are just amazing – a massively deserved treat for a brave little fundraiser.
