Some surprising results in there.

There’s nothing I love more than a good musical, and it appears I’m not alone.

A new survey has revealed that two thirds of Irish adults said they attend the theatre up to four times a year. When asked which show they like best, Les Miserables topped the poll, followed closely by Grease and then The Sound of Music (27%).

Personally, I think Wicked or The Lion King were overlooked.

The Lion King’s ‘Circle of Life’ did make it into the favourite songs though, coming third behind Somewhere Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz and All I Ask of You from Phantom of the Opera.

Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan was voted the Irish celebrity we would most like to star in a musical. Brendan Gleeson came in second, while Pat Shortt and Colin Farrell were joint third.

The survey was carried out to celebrate the Bord Gáis Energy Student Theatre Awards which are currently open for entries. The Awards recognise and reward participation in drama in schools across Ireland and are open to primary school students from 3rd to 6th class and all secondary school students.
