Kevin Barry’s first novel City of Bohane has made the shortlist for this year’s International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.
He was the only Irish author to make this year’s list which is compiled from nominations by public libraries across Europe, Africa and America.
City of Bohane is Kevin Barry's first novel.
Barry could be in with a chance of claiming the coveted €100,000 prize but will face strong competition from the other nine titles, two of which were written by previous winners.
Speaking of winners, this year’s will be decided by a group of judges and announced at the beginning of June.
The shortlist was announced by The Lord Mayor of Dublin (Image: IMPAC).
The other books that made it onto the shortlist are as follows: The Map and the Territory by Michel Houellebecq (2002 winner), Pure by Andrew Miller (1999 winner), 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka, The Tragedy of Arthur by Arthur Phillips, Swamplandia! By Karen Russell, From the Mouth of the Whale by Sjón, The Faster I Walk, The Smaller I Am by Kjersti Skomsvold and Caesarion by Tommy Wieringa.
