“I hold my hands up to making mistakes, I have plenty of flaws, I’m human and I’m always learning.”

Joanne Larby who goes by the name of The Makeup Fairy, has issued a public apology following several weeks remaining offline. The blogger received criticism by followers and Instagram page “Bloggers Unveiled” for photoshopping and altering her images as well as false advertising of clothing, purchasing followers and not labelling sponsored content.

Having received such criticism over the past few weeks, the blogger took a hiatus from social media however, she has now returned and issued a statement earlier today apologising for her mistakes and discussing how the hate upset her.

She wrote:

“As many of you are aware I’ve been offline for the past couple of weeks. During this time I’ve had the chance to reflect on the whole scenario and I’ve asked myself what I did to deserve what happened.”

“In terms of the hate campaign that ensued the answer is nothing, purely because receiving messages from strangers telling me they hope I kill myself or end up on the dole and involving my family is not acceptable. HOWEVER did I deserve to be called out on certain things? 100%. I’ve actually been really humbled by this whole experience and gained a huge amount of knowledge.”

She continued by explaining that this experience has thought her a lot about herself, writing:

“I’ve actually been really humbled by this whole experience and gained a huge amount of knowledge. I hold my hands up to making mistakes, I have plenty of flaws, I’m human and I’m always learning.”

The blogger then continued to speak about her sponsored content, which she was called out for not labelling in the past. Under the ASAI code it is illegal to not state that content is sponsored on each post which the content features in.

Joanne explained:

“The balance between business woman and brand isn’t always easy, but sometimes you just have to bring it back to basics and I would like to say sorry. I’ve listened to your constructive comments, which I’m very grateful for because I’ve learnt a huge amount about myself, my strength and my wonderful followers who don’t believe everything they see or read online.”

Lastly she discussed what she believes her content should truly stand for and thanked her followers for standing by her side.

“My content is about enjoying life, trying out new hobbies, finding balance in terms of health and mental wellness. I’m passionate about beauty and fashion and inspiring women to take strength from shitty situations. You’ll catch me in real life most likely laughing confidently with no make up on and online in front of 150,000 people I feckin’ love a filter. Huge big hug to those of you who have continued to support me x” Joanne wrote on Instagram.

However, since Joanne posted this Instagram post earlier today, it has received mixed reaction with some people not accepting her apology and many angered that the blogger never addressed any of the issues which she was called out on.

One person wrote: “While I don’t agree with horrible comments about your looks etc, I do believe this situation wasn’t a ‘hate campaign’. Truth came to light, you deflected, even accused people of buying your followers for content when there has been proof of your followers being bought from months ago consecutively and prior to certain instagram accounts being set up. Just own up, say you did wrong, apologise and actually change. I don’t want to see a doctored image of you Joanne. You’re beautiful as you are. Please go back to basics and respect your following and give us a proper explanation, we deserve that at least. Thank you.”

Fans of Joanne however commented underneath praising her for making a return and explained how much they missed her posts.
